Real Wedding Saturday: Jennifer & James

Gloria Wong sent this beautifully charming wedding over to me, and I couldn't wait to share it with you! Jennifer loves cooking, James loves eating, and they both absolutely love the Napa Valley, so a rustic marketplace wedding was the perfect theme for Gloria to work with. The result was an understated take on rustic chic, a comfortable and casual event, with the feel of a late summer getaway in French Provence. But enough of my talking... on to the beautiful photos by Gertrude & Mabel!

The September wedding took place at Beaulieu Gardens in Rutherford, California.

Jennifer and James wrote their own vows.

Good On Paper Design created all of the printed materials, from the invitations to the programs.

Jennifer wore a dress by Vera Wang.

In lieu of a traditional guest book, guests were asked to write a "recipe" for a good marriage on individual note cards.

During the cocktail hour, a "marketplace" was set up, were guests were encouraged to "shop" around for fresh fruit, flowers, flip-flops, and recipe boxes. The boxes were filled with cards of the bride's favorite recipes, plus a muslin sack filled with her favorite herb, thyme.

Lounges were set up for guests to relax and enjoy reading some of Jennifer's favorite cookbooks. Seating cards were displayed in vintage suitcases.

Nancy Liu Chin Designs created all of the floral elements. Jubilee Lau Events coordinated the day.

The cakes were Stella Pastry Cafe's famous Sacripantina cake: vanilla sponge cake layered with zabaglione, cream and rum.

Guests took a break from dancing to the sounds of Anything She Wants to roam around the garden, and to enjoy a fromage station and a popcorn station - two of the couple's favorite snacks. And, at the end of the night, guests were offered a late night snack - In-n-Out burgers and Boylan soda. Paula LeDuc catered the event, and surprised the couple with a basket of cheeses after the reception, because they hadn't had any during the party!

Congratulations and best wishes, Jennifer and James. And a big thank you to Gloria Wong for sending this charming wedding to us, and to Gertrude & Mabel for sharing these beautiful photos!

This is, hands down, my new favorite wedding! The "marketplace" was an absolutely brilliant idea and I love how they incorporated their favorite snacks into the event as well. The photos are stunning and I so wish I knew this adorable couple so I could have attended this wedding :-) Their guests were treated to quite an amazing experience!

BRAVO to a beautiful SUNFLOWER wedding that wasn't shabby chic or country home. I love sunflowers but most weddings I see with them don't quite hit the mark (for me.) this is spot on! love it!

There's a really great story behind the wedding that most people don't know. It was actually one of the hottest days in Napa. We are talking 105 degrees. Because of that, I actually made two bridal bouquets for Jennifer. Both were equally stunning. I had a great vendor, Torchio Nursery, who outdid themselves. I ordered twice the amount of dahlias that I needed and twice the amount of sunflowers that was ordered by the bride because I knew that the heat was going to "kill" the flowers.

Let's just say that we used EVERY flower that day.

We also pre made the suitcase with the moss. I took a styrofoam board to fill the suitcase and them "u" pinned the moss on top. I think it made for a stunning piece.

Bottom line: in hot weather, make sure you are working with a floral designer who will order "over" the needed amount.

Thanks for all the comments, Snippet & Ink fans.

Love, Nancy Liu Chin
