A Snippet & Ink Christmas, #12
Well friends, it's already the last day of Snippet & Ink's 12 Days of Christmas! I hope you've enjoyed it as much as I have, and maybe I'll have to do something like it again next year. I thought I'd finish up with a delicious post - some of my favorite Christmas nibbles.

1. Unfortunately, Champagne gives me a headache, but I'll drink Martinelli's shamelessly during the holidays.
2. This photo was the best I could find that resembled my mom's warm crab dip in a bread bowl. So good. Recipe below.
3. If you haven't had See's candy, you must. We get a five-pound box at my mom's house, and it usually lasts about two days. I especially love their butterscotch squares and peanut butter crunch.
4. One year, my mother's friend brought a warm persimmon pudding with whipped cream. I may try my hand at one this year because I've dreamed about it ever since.
5. These little bites are parmesan-stuffed, bacon-wrapped dates, and they're a big hit whenever I serve them.
6. When my sisters and I get the motivation to make our own bouche de Noel, we also make chocolate leaves, shaped on holly from the garden.
7. I'm sharing my mother's vinaigrette recipe because everyone should have it. It's easy, and it will convince you never to buy another bottle of salad dressing. Recipe below.
8. Panettone from Emporio Rulli for breakfast on Christmas morning has become a family tradition in our house.
9. I know it's not the highest quality ice cream, and the pink color is enough to scare smarter people away, but I love Dreyer's (Edy's for those of you east of the Mississippi) holiday-only peppermint ice cream. With hot fudge, please.
10. In our house, Santa gets these crumbly, buttery Viennese crescent cookies. Recipe below.
Warm Crab Dip
Ingredients
3 8-oz bars of cream cheese
1 cup mayonnaise
12 oz canned crabmeat OR 1 1/2 cups picked over fresh crabmeat
1 clove garlic, crushed
2 tsp. dry mustard
1/4 cup white wine
2 tsp. powdered sugar
Lawry's seasoning, to taste
Directions
1. Over medium-low heat, stir cream cheese and mayonnaise together until blended and smooth.
2. Stir in all other ingredients. Heat until just warm; do not boil.
3. Serve in a sourdough bread bowl with bread.
Mom's Vinaigrette
Whisk together (or shake well in a jar) 1/4 cup olive oil, 2 Tbl. vinegar (balsamic or red wine), 2 Tbl. heavy cream, 1 clove crushed garlic, and Dijon mustard to taste (1/2 tsp is what I use). This works well over just about any green salad.
Viennese Crescents
Ingredients
1 cup walnuts
1 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
2 1/2 cups flour, sifted
powdered sugar
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Process walnuts in Cuisinart to a paste. Add all other ingredients except powdered sugar, and process until blended.
3. Shape into crescents on a cookie sheet. Keep in refrigerator until ready to bake.
4. Bake for 15-20 minutes, until lightly golden.
5. While warm, sift powdered sugar over the tops.
