A Snippet & Ink Christmas, #8
Update! I know the images are missing (thanks a lot Blogger), but until I get a chance to do all my fancy cutting and pasting, etc., I wanted to re-post this because some people have asked me for the information about some of the items. I'll get around to fixing the image problem eventually, but in the meantime, if you're curious you can click on the links to see what I'm talking about.
Everyone has a wish list this time of year (or any time of year, I guess), and even though they might not admit it, everyone has what I like to call a "Santa Baby" wish list, too. You know, those things that are beyond the realm of possibility as far as how likely you are to ever receive them as a gift. Or own them, period. So this is my Santa Baby wish list this year, alongside more realistic possible gift items.
Strut.

Left: These are on my Santa baby list because they're the ultimate fantasy shoe. Remember when Carrie got her hands on them in the Vogue accessories closet? {Manolo Blahnik patent leather Mary Janes, $555}
Right: I would be happy to get a pair of these, in any and every color, to keep in my purse. How can you beat comfortable AND cute. {Sue London ballet flats, $134}
Click.

Left: What can I say? Their ad campaign sold me. {Nikon D40X, $700}
Right: Wouldn't it be nice to have this, instead of trying to balance your camera on a stack of magazines or the hood of your car? {Gorillapod tripod, $25}
Trip.

Left: Who wants to feel like royalty? Me too! {Hilton Maldives Resort, $1,500}
Right: Cross country skiing has never appealed to me, but a weekend at this historic home would probably be enough to change my mind. {Frank Lloyd Wright's Seth Peterson cottage, $275 per weekend night}
Read.

Left: I would feel really cool if I got this surprise in the mail every three months. {subscription to The Thing Quarterly, $120 for four issues}
Right: I'm not sure how I've lived this long without a subscription to this one. {subscription to Martha Stewart Living, $24 for twelve issues}
Bloom.

Left: This isn't a fantasy because of the price. It's a fantasy because A) I live in an apartment and B) I live outside its ideal growing zone. Oh but I love them. {dogwood tree, $60 for 25}
Right: I love most flowers (although hot house roses, not so much) but I have a special place in my heart for white hydrangeas. {white hydrangea plant, $55}
Scent.

Right: How fabulous would it be to have a perfume custom made, just for you? Talk about a signature scent. {Aftelier custom perfume, $1,100}
Left: A solid perfume is so convenient. And less likely to explode all over your purse. {Marc Jacobs Gardenia solid, $55}
Chop.

Left: My dream kitchen features copper pots, marble countertops, and a set of these. {Shun Ken Onion 11-piece knife block set, $1,300}
Right: I think everyone needs a decent chef's knife, and this one definitely fits the bill. {Wusthof Classic Ikon 8-inch chef's knife, $120}
Write.

Left: I'd love to write my brilliant ideas in this sassy little book. {Smythson Dreams and Desires Panama notebook, $113}
Right: This little book of details is such a lovely, simple way to capture your day. {Marta Designs mini diary, $10)
Bling.

Left: I don't care how long it takes, I am going to save up enough money to buy this watch. I mean, it's a classic! I can pass it along to my grandchildren! {Cartier Tank Louis watch, $5,500}
Right: The reversible tiny disc is too sweet. {Sonya Renee mini disc necklace, $50}
Sweet.

Right: These ceramic fruits are truly pieces of art. My mom has a little bowl of them on her coffee table, and I covet them. {Penkridge Ceramics pear, $50}
Left: You may think these are the same as clementines, but I'm telling you, they're better. {5-pound box of Satsuma tangerines, $15}
Warm.

Right: I'm a down comforter kind of girl, in every season. But I'd change that if it meant I could have one of these gorgeous blankets. {Swans Island summer blanket, $575}
Left: Doesn't this blanket look just right for cuddling up by the fire with some cocoa? Of course, between the time I found it and now, it appears to have sold out, but they have another one that's similarly wonderful. {Lands' End plaid throw, $70}
Tote.

Right: I dream of one day finding the perfect bag, and loving it so much, and having it be so classic, that I never have to buy another one. {Prada calfskin hobo, $1,300}
Left: This clutch is so unique: it's funky enough to be cool, but simple enough to work with just about any outfit. {Betsy Wise round buckle clutch, $120}
Play.

Right: My nephew would go bonkers for this airplane! Oh how I wish I could afford to spoil him that much! {Flying Ace pedal plane, $350}
Left: These little cars are so freaking cool! They come apart, with pieces you can interchange with other models. My nephew loves them, but I think they're cool enough for grown ups, too. {Automoblox vehicle, $35}

I just purchased the Nikon D40x yesterday! I couldn't wait for Santa since it was way out of anyone's price range. I did a ton of research and picked the brains of a few photographer friends before I decided to go with that one. I compared it to the Canon Rebel XTI and the Pentax K10D. The Pentax is nice, but was much heavier and larger than both the Nikon and the Canon. Plus it didn't quite stack stack up to the Nikon in being able to capture the details (not a major difference, but enough). Plus the Pentax and the Canon were noisy...noisy shutters and focus motors. The Nikon reduces that noise by having the motors in the lens rather than the camera.
Can I just say that the staff at both locations of Kits (Ritz) Cameras were super helpful, plus I got all kinds of free stuff: a photo printer (mail in rebate, so it's just the cost of the stamps), digital photographry classes worth $270, one round of prints and CDs, and a free future photo book. I spent another $50.00 and got a camera bag, instructional DVDs, and another lens worth $250. Oh, they also gave me a $50.00 gift card (sweet!).
Angel, thank you so much for sharing that! I am definitely considering the camera as a gift to myself, and if you love it, than that's good to know.
You're very welcome! I can pass on one more bit of advice that everyone told me to do: get your hands on a few models and see if you like how they fit. All three fit fairly well in my hands, but the weight was a huge difference.
About a week ago I called a photographer friend to ask his advise on purchasing a camera. It too is on my Christmas List! I'll have to show "Santa" this post.:)
Maybe Santa reads blogs?
