DIY with Paul Lowe, Part 1

Today we're continuing with Monday Miscellany with three gorgeous do-it-yourself projects from the fabulously talented Paul Lowe of the blog Sweet Paul (if you don't already know about it, you will want to head over there immediately and spend hours looking through his gorgeous posts). You might recognize some of his work from Country Living or Real Simple or any number of other publications, so you can imagine how thrilled I am to have him here today to share not one, but three beautiful "Something Old" projects! So, here's Paul...

One thing that always strikes me when I'm at a wedding is how new everything is - everything is super white, shiny and sparkly. The last time I was at a wedding, I found myself thinking, "Wouldn't it be great to make a wedding with a more vintagey, crafty feel to it?" So that's what I've done with these simple craft ideas. The materials come from my partner's grandmother. She gave me this huge box of old lace, knowing I could use it in my craft projects (everyone who knows a little about me knows that I'm a lace and doily freak).

Lace Vase

Materials:
glass vase
lace
hot glue gun
needle and thread

Directions:
Cut a strip of lace so that it goes all the way around the vase. Hand-stitch or hot glue gun the ends at the back. Fill with water and flowers for a centerpiece.

Check back later for part two of Paul's beautifully simple do-it-yourself projects!

I love the idea of "vintage". There is so much character and image in that. Could you share some details about the vase that is shown here. Is it glass? Is that ribbon around the glass with lace attached? Thank you for the great ideas and pics.

Looking forward to other ideas. I was just thinking of using lace wrapped around a glass vase filled with an orchid plant as a centerpiece for my daughter's wedding. Her gown has a lace overlay so this would be complimented by using the lace in the centerpieces
