Board #315: Navy & Yellow

Navy and yellow is one of the preppiest color combinations around, and it's often applied to a nautical theme. But not this time! In this inspiration board, I imagined a late winter or early spring City Hall wedding for a sassy modern couple (a ruffly yellow dress by Heidi Merrick! navy blue nail polish!). Lemons are a perfect decorative element for the season, and bouquets of narcissus and cattleya orchids are both sweet and sophisticated. And how could I resist the chair from the Viceroy Palm Springs? Where do you think the best place would be for this couple's reception? An intimate meal at a favorite restaurant? A sleek urban loft? Any ideas?

Mood: whimsical modern glam
Palette: navy blue, lemon yellow, porcelain white

I think this couple would celebrate at chic, private, downtown restaurant with their close fam and friends... maybe a super old steak house with a vintage urban vibe???

Great board like always!

I think aperfect reception would be at a hotel restaurant. They often have amazing decor, so there would not be much decorating. They also sometimes have smaller private rooms in their restaurants that would be perfect for an intimate dinner with loved ones. I love this palette!

Oh I definitely think this one is taking place in a museum or art gallery of some kind. Something slightly offbeat from the traditional reception venue and reflective of the couple's interests. I definitely love the navy and bright yellow used in a non-nautical fashion!

I imagine that they would get married in the morning, then all would go to a nice bistro and enjoy a brunch, some lemony vodka tonics and mimosas, and then they could parade off to a beautiful old hotel where they could all do ballroom dancing in the afternoon. Buy 2 pm the bride and groom could retire upstairs and everyone else could go home. It would be the right light for such a sunny palette. Nighttime would be ok, but the daylight would bring out the brilliance of the blue.

Kathryn, I love these colors! A citrus tone like yellow, orange or lime just makes everything pop! So fun! xoxo, Jen

How can I secure an invite to this wedding? That yellow chair is phenomenal...

I can see this couple renting out an entire floor of a chic boutique hotel and setting up a different theme in each room----this is just the first of many for them! And they seem like the type to do something grand and outrageous like that...

I LOVE the combination of yellow and navy! I especially love pale yellow and navy, but today's board made me realize that bright yellow works just as well!

I envision a chic and modern reception venue, like a restaurant situated far above the city that gives you the feeling of being on top of the world! Views of the city lights, water, etc.... and there's something about blue, white and yellow that hints that they are located in a New England city, like Boston.

this reminds me SO much of the 'french' wedding that david tutera features in the photo gallery of the wedding section on his website - a very similar color scheme was used. so i am going to say an all white loft space would work, but i could also see this working in a tented outdoor space..surrounded by a beautiful garden.

Thanks for posting this. I am terrified I will be forced into what I consider the "dreaded" winter wedding but this has given me some ideas about how to handle it differently.

This couple had a lovely city hall wedding followed up by bloody marys and lunch at Zuni...

I know because that would be me and my husband up there.
