Board #160: Chasing Butterflies

I found this photo by Rodney Smith, of the man and the boy chasing after butterflies, via Perfect Bound, and it inspired this board. What a fun idea, to have a wedding that has a bit of a butterfly theme, without being overly girly and pink, and instead is reminiscent of old scientific papers and illustrations. I imagine centerpieces under bell jars, notes from guests dropped into an old bird cage, and butterfly-shaped seating cards arranged in a shadowbox. You could even name each table after a different species' Latin name. For little guests, butterfly nets make a fun favor, perhaps with a long ribbon tied onto the handle.

Mood: cheerful discovery
Palette: green, brown, white

Top row from left: photo by Rodney Smith, Michelle Rago arrangement (photo by Dasha Wright), papered wall via Desire to Inspire
Row 2: dress via Nibs, bouquet by Ariella Chezar
Row 3: butterflies by Lushbella, ribbons and lanterns from In Any Event, insect jars, Old Town Florist boutonnieres via Perfectly Pearl
Row 4: shoes via A Cup of Jo, Le Petite Fleur cake from Brides, flowers via {ritzy bee}, envelope by Bari Zaki

Update!

These butterfly seating cards by Hello! Lucky would have been perfect in this inspiration board.

love this board! so beautiful and inspiring! aren't the paper butterflies (1st photo, 3rd row) from lush bella's etsy shop? just wondering cause that photo didn't have a credit beside it.

Love that dress!!

This reminds me of your Night at the Museum board: http://snippetandink.blogspot.com/2007/11/board-66-night-at-museum.html

I could see this board infused with the dark orange of a monarch butterfly too.

I love that you went with the old scientist theme. It definitly updates the butterfly theme that can seem childish at times. Great work & thanks for the inspiration!

I think this is one of the most beautiful boards yet! So easy for butterflies to be saccherine and girly but this is so much more refined
