Board #359: Bougainvillea & Stone

Jose Villa's work is a constant inspiration to me, so it's no surprise that one of his photos is on the cover of PDN's new book by Jacqueline Tobin, Wedding Photography Unveiled, a book full of work from some of the best wedding photographers in the world. I used Jose's cover photo to create today's inspiration board - I imagined an elegant, formal wedding set against the backdrop of colonial Mexico, draped in lush bougainvillea. And... to celebrate the book's release, Jose has offered to give a copy to one Snippet & Ink reader! Just leave a comment on this post about why you'd like to win the book, no later than 5:00 PM on Thursday. I will announce the winner in my Friday post.

Mood: vibrant, romantic, old world
Palette: bougainvillea, stone

I love the colonial Mexico touch. Being from Mexico myself & getting married this June I am constantly trying to incorporate the elements of Mexico into our big day without it looking like a Cinco de Mayo fiesta. I'd love to receive this gift & will use it as a coffee table book and to display as we near our engagement and enter into the hubby/wife roles I am looking forward to! Thanks for all the wonderful inspirations!

It would absolutely make my day to win this book! Although it would be useful for me on two accounts - I'm planning a wedding for next summer AND am in the process of opening up a photography studio - but since I've been a broke college student for the last 4 years any extra money gets siphoned into my wedding, new living arrangements, and my business. I'm such a believer in creative photojournalism and truthfully, even if I weren't starting up a business or planning a wedding, I would love to own the book - - who doesn't adore a beautiful book of photography?!

I would love this book! I am inexplicably drawn to other people's wedding photos and am in need of some inspiration of what shots to get at my upcoming destination wedding. Speaking of bougainvillea, I'm getting married soon in the Turks and Caicos Islands where bougainvillea is the only natural flower growing there-- hence I'm incorporating it into my wedding and would love some more inspiration on how to do so! Thanks for this fabulous board!!!

I would love to win Wedding Photography Unveiled! The most important part of our upcoming wedding is the photography, but we're having a difficult time choosing "must-have" shots! This would provide invaluable inspiration!

I would love to win this book and sit on the porch with my mom and fiance, drinking horchata, looking at veils with Mom and canapes with my groom. I'm sure my sister would also join in and oggle the shoes.

What a stunning photo! A photograph is the best place to get wedding inspiration from. Sometimes it's not about the flowers or type of place settings, but the look the photographer captures on the bride's and/or groom's face. You know you want to feel like that person in the photo does on your wedding day.

this is so perfect! my fiance and i are getting married in june and we're having friends do the photography in order to save money. i'd love to have something like this for them to look at to inspire them. (also, i am an all-american girl and my fiance is from south america, so seeing your inspiration board helped give me ideas to pull his culture and heritage into our wedding - thank you!)

i love the momogramed parasol - that's just so romantic. we're not getting married in mexico, but we are getting married on a vineyard, so we're going for a rustic, vintage feel kind of like this one. loved this board.

as for the book - it would be so useful. after the economic crash we realized we couldn't afford the photographer we wanted. we found a local photographer, who works mostly with kids, who would do it for free to build her portfolio because she wants to get into wedding photography. she's so fantastic, and we've realize it makes us happy to offer our weding to her, because it will hopefuly help her get work in the future. so the book would help us explain what we're looking for, and give her some great inspiriation for our day.

either way - thanks!

I would love to win this book! I'm getting married in the DC area two months from today, and one of the major things on my to-do list to come up with a "portfolio" of shots to show our photographer a bit about the style and content of photographs we're hoping for. This book would make that job infitately easier. Plus, who doesn't love to look at gorgeous photography?!

The secret to your incomparable inspiration boards revealed: You must be a wedding photography aficionado! ;)Wedding photography is a great example of an artist's "eye" for mood and design. Some photographers have the ability to capture feeling and emotion which is essential to this industry. Jose Villa's photographs are quite beautiful!

I've always enjoyed being surrounded by the "inspirational clutter" that I gather in my life.(so to speak, i'm actually a very organized person). I love to rip pretty pictures out of magazines and save them in books or put them into a photo collage. Ofcourse tons of personal pictures are on my walls. I'm very inspired by seeing it put all together to form new ideas. That's why I love your boards! Not only would this book fufill a personal love I have for fun/creative ideas, weddings and photography but it would be a double-hit since I work in the wedding industry! A place to let my own creative ideas flow!

The fuschia always stands out so well in photographs, too! Contrasting an earth tone like gray or brown is perfect. There are a few other photos with these color on my blog and website.

AAAAH I am OBSESSED with Jose Villa's work. If there was any way we could afford him, we'd love to have him shoot our wedding. Maybe I can live vicariously through this book! This would be such a great resource as we're compiling a "must have" list of shots for our photographer, Sarah K. Chen, who WAS lucky enough to have Mr. Villa shoot her wedding. Anyway, I would absolutely love to win this book!!!

That is so beautiful. I am in love with Jose Villa's Photography. I saw one of his photo shoots in Southern Weddings magazine and it just blew my mind. I just love how personal and intimate he can make pictures look without being too "cookie cutter" like plenty of wedding photos can look. I am a young, engaged, and broke college student trying to plan a wedding in a beer budget economy. I wouldn't call myself creative at all so I'd love to have a book to give me ideas and inspirations for my own wedding.

My daughter is getting married in 136 days and like most families we are on a tight budget, doing almost everything ourselves except the photography. Because I appreciate all the compromises the bride & groom are making, I want to show my appreciation by gifting them this book. Not only because it is a work of art, but also because it will inspire their historical Spanish theme. Afterwards, in the spirit of sharing, I expect them to pass this treasure on to another engaged couple, who in turn will pass it on. Essentially, this book will touch and inspire many brides & grooms.
