Board #359: Bougainvillea & Stone
Jose Villa's work is a constant inspiration to me, so it's no surprise that one of his photos is on the cover of PDN's new book by Jacqueline Tobin, Wedding Photography Unveiled, a book full of work from some of the best wedding photographers in the world. I used Jose's cover photo to create today's inspiration board - I imagined an elegant, formal wedding set against the backdrop of colonial Mexico, draped in lush bougainvillea. And... to celebrate the book's release, Jose has offered to give a copy to one Snippet & Ink reader! Just leave a comment on this post about why you'd like to win the book, no later than 5:00 PM on Thursday. I will announce the winner in my Friday post.

I love the colonial Mexico touch. Being from Mexico myself & getting married this June I am constantly trying to incorporate the elements of Mexico into our big day without it looking like a Cinco de Mayo fiesta. I'd love to receive this gift & will use it as a coffee table book and to display as we near our engagement and enter into the hubby/wife roles I am looking forward to! Thanks for all the wonderful inspirations!
Just gorgeous!
I would love to win this book! I am an aspiring photographer, and would love to gain inspiration from this unique and classic style. I'm always looking for new sources of inspiration, and this looks fantastic!
What's more romantic than bougainvillea? Love it!
I would love to win this gorgeous book as well! I am a new photographer in the wedding industry and I am constantly receiving inspiration from Jose Villa, he is truly a leader in the world of wedding photography.
It would absolutely make my day to win this book! Although it would be useful for me on two accounts - I'm planning a wedding for next summer AND am in the process of opening up a photography studio - but since I've been a broke college student for the last 4 years any extra money gets siphoned into my wedding, new living arrangements, and my business. I'm such a believer in creative photojournalism and truthfully, even if I weren't starting up a business or planning a wedding, I would love to own the book - - who doesn't adore a beautiful book of photography?!
I absolutely love looking at wedding photography. Having this book to look through and draw inspiration from would be so much fun!
I would love this book! I am inexplicably drawn to other people's wedding photos and am in need of some inspiration of what shots to get at my upcoming destination wedding. Speaking of bougainvillea, I'm getting married soon in the Turks and Caicos Islands where bougainvillea is the only natural flower growing there-- hence I'm incorporating it into my wedding and would love some more inspiration on how to do so! Thanks for this fabulous board!!!
I would love to win Wedding Photography Unveiled! The most important part of our upcoming wedding is the photography, but we're having a difficult time choosing "must-have" shots! This would provide invaluable inspiration!
I would love to win this book! I just got engaged two weeks ago and I am planning a wedding in New Orleans. I would love to be able to look at this book for inspiration! Thanks!
I would love to win this book because one day, I hope to be a wedding photographer myself!
I would so love this book, who doesn't need insight and inspiration? And i have a new bookshelf waiting to be filled!
By the way, your board is stunning as usual.
I would love to win this book and sit on the porch with my mom and fiance, drinking horchata, looking at veils with Mom and canapes with my groom. I'm sure my sister would also join in and oggle the shoes.
What a stunning photo! A photograph is the best place to get wedding inspiration from. Sometimes it's not about the flowers or type of place settings, but the look the photographer captures on the bride's and/or groom's face. You know you want to feel like that person in the photo does on your wedding day.
this is so perfect! my fiance and i are getting married in june and we're having friends do the photography in order to save money. i'd love to have something like this for them to look at to inspire them. (also, i am an all-american girl and my fiance is from south america, so seeing your inspiration board helped give me ideas to pull his culture and heritage into our wedding - thank you!)
I love to view photographs of weddings, and it amazes me how many different ways there are for two people to affirm their love for one another.
i love the momogramed parasol - that's just so romantic. we're not getting married in mexico, but we are getting married on a vineyard, so we're going for a rustic, vintage feel kind of like this one. loved this board.
as for the book - it would be so useful. after the economic crash we realized we couldn't afford the photographer we wanted. we found a local photographer, who works mostly with kids, who would do it for free to build her portfolio because she wants to get into wedding photography. she's so fantastic, and we've realize it makes us happy to offer our weding to her, because it will hopefuly help her get work in the future. so the book would help us explain what we're looking for, and give her some great inspiriation for our day.
either way - thanks!
Would love to win this book...I'm planning 2 weddings my son's and another of a friend. This would be great inspiration! Thanks!

I would love to win this book! I'm getting married in the DC area two months from today, and one of the major things on my to-do list to come up with a "portfolio" of shots to show our photographer a bit about the style and content of photographs we're hoping for. This book would make that job infitately easier. Plus, who doesn't love to look at gorgeous photography?!
I love the work of Jose Villa, Elizabeth Messina and all the other incredible photographers featured is this great book! With a tight budget in place because of our upcoming wedding, it would be awesome to win a copy!
I am 100% IN LOVE with this color palette! Like, head over heels. Of course, my wedding is around the corner and I already have something totally different but I think this is stunning. Perfect for Spring, Summer or even fall since the pink is so rich!
I love that photo of the bride peeking out from behind her mantilla. I'm just a future MOB, so I won't throw my name in the hat for the book. Let the brides enjoy it.
Bougainvillea is everywhere here in the south!! And the stone color just makes this board so sophisticated... swoon. I'm really digging this color combo!
Great job!
The secret to your incomparable inspiration boards revealed: You must be a wedding photography aficionado! ;)Wedding photography is a great example of an artist's "eye" for mood and design. Some photographers have the ability to capture feeling and emotion which is essential to this industry. Jose Villa's photographs are quite beautiful!
Gorgeous and inspiring. Would love a copy to help me with some upcoming planning!
Just wanted to say that your blog inspired me to create my own blog for brides in Minnesota. The book would be a wonderful resource for my blog - in terms of inspiration.
That photo is beautiful! I would love to win this book... love, love, love to. I'm also planning a wedding in Mexico and I totally agree with the girl who posted below: 5 de Mayo is NOT the look I'm going for.
This inspiration board is my favorite you've ever done, by the way. Good job!
I love the color of bougainvillea. It is inspiring our wedding and we have a great reception venue with tons of the beautiful blossoms.
I've always enjoyed being surrounded by the "inspirational clutter" that I gather in my life.(so to speak, i'm actually a very organized person). I love to rip pretty pictures out of magazines and save them in books or put them into a photo collage. Ofcourse tons of personal pictures are on my walls. I'm very inspired by seeing it put all together to form new ideas. That's why I love your boards! Not only would this book fufill a personal love I have for fun/creative ideas, weddings and photography but it would be a double-hit since I work in the wedding industry! A place to let my own creative ideas flow!
I would love to win this book. I'm just getting into photography and one day hope to be as good as Jose - and the others featured in this book. This book would provide amazing inspiration.
I would love to win this book! I'm absolutely obsessed with wedding photography and have been ever since I was a little girl.
The fuschia always stands out so well in photographs, too! Contrasting an earth tone like gray or brown is perfect. There are a few other photos with these color on my blog and website.

AAAAH I am OBSESSED with Jose Villa's work. If there was any way we could afford him, we'd love to have him shoot our wedding. Maybe I can live vicariously through this book! This would be such a great resource as we're compiling a "must have" list of shots for our photographer, Sarah K. Chen, who WAS lucky enough to have Mr. Villa shoot her wedding. Anyway, I would absolutely love to win this book!!!
i'd love the book, but there are probably more deserving readers. I just wanted to comment because this board is one of my FAVES ever. que bonita!
I would love to win the book - not only because I love photography (I collect fashion photography) and it looks great, but because it might actually be helpful - I will hopefully be planning my wedding shoot soon!
I LOVE this board! I'd love to win this book because I adore Jose Villa's work, and I'm in the process of building my wedding coffee table book library for when I open my own event consulting business soon!
i'm in love with wedding photography!
I would love to win this book because I just started studying floral design and this book would be full of theme and style inspiration!
This book looks amazing! I'd like to win this book because I JUST got engaged this past weekend to my wonderful bf of 3.5 years and could use the inspiration :)
Ooh, I love Jose Villa. I bought a Holga because of him.
That is so beautiful. I am in love with Jose Villa's Photography. I saw one of his photo shoots in Southern Weddings magazine and it just blew my mind. I just love how personal and intimate he can make pictures look without being too "cookie cutter" like plenty of wedding photos can look. I am a young, engaged, and broke college student trying to plan a wedding in a beer budget economy. I wouldn't call myself creative at all so I'd love to have a book to give me ideas and inspirations for my own wedding.
Long time reader, first time poster. I have loved your blog for quite a while now, but I recently got engaged so I have even more reason to visit. I am overwhelmed with getting started! I would love to win this book for some inspiration... maybe it will give me some direction for the big day.
This would provide so much inspiration for our October wedding!! I'm a huge fan of Jose Villa and I would love to have this book so I can drool over his work :)
My daughter is getting married in 136 days and like most families we are on a tight budget, doing almost everything ourselves except the photography. Because I appreciate all the compromises the bride & groom are making, I want to show my appreciation by gifting them this book. Not only because it is a work of art, but also because it will inspire their historical Spanish theme. Afterwards, in the spirit of sharing, I expect them to pass this treasure on to another engaged couple, who in turn will pass it on. Essentially, this book will touch and inspire many brides & grooms.
I was fortunate to marry my beloved just 2 months ago on my 32nd birthday, and our guests' snapshots of the celebration have become our most cherished gifts. My new hope is to bless other newlyweds with creative photographs of their love and joy. May I be encouraged with this beautiful book please?
I would love to win/own this book! After planning my own wedding last fall I have gone back to school to become an event cordinator and my husband is breaking into the wedding photography business, so we still look at blogs and wedding sites together daily! It would be wonderful to have this gorgeous collection of photos in our home for inspiration- Thank you!
I love Jose Villa's work! This book is very exciting, I can't wait to get inspired!
I would love to win this book- because I love weddings insperations!!! Being from Maui....it's nice to see other weddings besides "island-style!" And it'll make a nice vintage gift someday for my daughter!
