Board #443: Persimmons & Porcelain
As a bride, I've really been trying to maintain perspective about my wedding choices, and when you look at weddings all day long like I do, it's definitely easy to get lost. It's no secret that I love the pretty details, but there's such a thing as too much. Instead, why not choose a few elements that matter to you and to make extra-special, focus on marrying the person you love and on being good hosts to your guests, and forget trying to style your wedding for a magazine/blog feature. Personally, I find understated elegance to be the most appealing look anyway! So, today's inspiration board is another attempt at finding that balance of beauty and simplicity...
I'm a total sucker for lush florals, especially when they include seasonal fruit like this arrangement from Saipua, with its giant dahlias and young persimmons. That arrangement served as the inspiration for this board: a late autumn/early winter wedding with unexpected rustic details. We seem to see mason jars everywhere these days, but this porcelain version is a refined update, and giving off a pleasant glow when used as a votive. A basket of ganache-filled egg shells is both farm-appropriate and a delightful surprise for your guests. As for the color scheme, ochre is an unusual choice, but used sparingly it adds subtle richness and depth to a backdrop of cream and barnwood gray - pops of golden yellow in the form of persimmons, the bride's bolero, and the velvet ribbon adorning her bouquet. Stationery pieces are printed on cream paper in black ink, allowing unique lettering to stand out.

Love the rustic feel. I agree, I get wrapped up in contemporary patterns, bold color contrasts and clean lines, but then I look at something like this and I love it a little more. It's so much warmer than a lot of modern themes. The colors are neutral without being boring. Fantastic board!
Your inspiration boards are exactly that. They help inspire me to look for beauty in everyday things. Life is better because of your work. Thank you.
what a fresh take on a vintage look! I love it!
love the rustic chic, clean look of this!
I LOVE the antique look!
Love that comment of yours! You are so right - we tend to focus too much on everything being perfect and sometimes should just step back to get things into perspective again!
i think you nailed the balance between beauty and simplicity and successfully also worked in elements that could be personal - the hand drawn and lettered elements make it seems personal and tangible - really beautiful!
Gorgeous. I love everything.
Wow, gorgeous indeed! ;) I know a lot of blogs do inspiration boards now, but yours NEVER disappoint. xx
so beautiful. I agree, there is so much beauty in simplicity.
I LOVE mason jar painted white! How cute!!!
Oh this board is my favorite! I just love rustic weddings. I need to quit looking at all of your gorgeous boards before I change my mind...again....about what I want for my wedding!
Jociegal,
That mason jar is actually slip cast porcelain - beautiful right!? I wonder though if you could paint one white for a similar votive effect...
I love the rustic touches, while still keeping such an elegant vibe. That Saipua arrangement is to-die-for... so lush, yet loose & unfussy. Gorgeous!
I love it. I absolutely LOVE the color scheme. What a perfectly harmonious idea.
Perfectly said. This is a lovely concept.
Preach it girl, and don't get distracted during the planning. I agree, focusing on a few specific areas is the way to go when a designer is planning her own wedding. And don't forget to make it a memorable, fun celebration for your guests! I was so entrenched in styling and designing my wedding that I overlooked a few key areas: like music. We skimped on the d.j. and I STILL regret it!
And I agree, ochre is such a fun, warm neutral and I love how you incorporated it here!
then I think you would love this wedding! http://tecpetajaphoto.blogspot.com/2009/11/ali-ian-colorado-co.html
:) It was so simple, yet so so so beautiful!
This is so beautiful. I love that first floral arrangement!
this is your best one yet! glad your inspiration boards are back!!
Your inspiration boards are so great! I use them again and again to get my clients to think ourside of the box!
I share those sentiments. Sometimes couples get so caught up on the looks or the latest trends that the wedding start to look too contrived. Do what you love and focus on living the day and not trying to capture it.
I am in love with this board! It's perfect!
Yes yes yes, me like!! I fell in here, in your beautiful and sensual blog.
I take the opportunity to leave a footprint behind me, a swedish one.

beautiful & rustic feel! Love the color palette. Mostly, love that you are focusing on what really matters. I know how you feel when it comes to being overwhelmed by wedding ideas/inspiration. For our wedding, I felt the same pressure to style my wedding in such a way that would come across good on the pages of a magazine or on my blog. Letting go of that to a certain extent is a great idea. Because in the end, its the people that matter. Making sure your guests have a good time, etc. Hard when you're engulfed in the wedding inspiration world. But definitely important to find the balance b/n creating a pretty picture or in my case, a perfect palette & making it a memorable wedding for you and your family.
Kathryn, I am blown away! It's like you've taken all the ideas my fiance and I have been floating for our wedding in August- palette, vintage and rustic touches, elegant simplicity, even letting unique fonts stand out on the invitations- and brought them to life in this gorgeous board! It will serve as a major inspiration as we make plans. Thank you so much for sharing your creativity with us. I will be sure to send you pictures of the results.
lovely kathryn!
