Real Wedding Saturday: JoEllen & Rob
Oh how I love a rustic wedding! And this one is full of playful, do-it-yourself details, captured beautifully by Stephany at EyeSpy Photography.
The September wedding took place at the Round Barn Farm in Red Wing, Minnesota. JoEllen and Rob both stayed at the bed and breakfast with their families for the whole wedding weekend.
The bride and groom both have backgrounds in design, so it was logical that they would design their own invitations - and print them, too! They were inspired by the weathervane on the top of the Round Barn, and it appeared as a motif on the stationery.
JoEllen wore darling red shoes by Stuart Weitzman.
Rob's suit, custom shirt, red-striped socks, and tie all came from Heimie's Haberdashery in St. Paul, Minnesota.
All of the flowers at the wedding were arranged by the couple's friend, Janet Chambers. The flowers were purchased in bulk from 2G Roses and Farms To Go, and some extras came from Appleblossom Flowers.
Rob spent the summer before the wedding working on his 1952 Chevy pickup truck. He and JoEllen and custom door decals made with the graphic they designed for their invitations. They drove the truck to the wedding venue, and to make their getaway on Sunday morning.
Little bells were placed at each seat for the ceremony for guests to ring as the couple made their way back down the aisle. The bells were embellished with tags that the couple Goccoed to read "Ring bells for first kisses and the newest Mr. & Mrs."
The ceremony was full of personal details. The Urthema String Quartet played a selection of the couple's favorite music, including the theme from The Life Aquatic, one of their favorite movies. JoEllen and Rob's fathers each did a reading, including a piece of scripture and a selection from The Little Prince.
Hay bales covered with vintage wool blankets made for rustic seats during the cocktail hour. The venue was hung with bunting flags that JoEllen made from 1950s tablecloths and other fun fabrics.
During the cocktail hour, guests played Kubb, a Viking lawn game which is sort of a combination of horseshoes and bowling. Croquet and Hatchet Toss were also set up for guests to play.
Seating cards, backed with red polka dot paper and tied with baker's twine, were clipped to a garden trellis with miniature clothespins. Guests ended up using them as nametags!
An antique wooden buggy held gifts from guests, and an old picnic basket held cards.
The reception was catered by Lunds and Byerly's.
Several types of cupcakes were baked by Lindquist Cake Shop, including chocolate and vanilla with various fillings (strawberry, fudge, Bavarian cream), and red velvet. JoEllen and Rob made the little cupcake flags, the cupcake stand was made by JoEllen's father, and JoEllen made the caketopper from vintage millinery supplies.
The couple danced to "Wastin' Time" by Ron Sexsmith for their first dance. In addition to dancing, there was a photobooth, games, and a bonfire for making s'mores.
The couple stole a kiss in the old truck at the end of the night.
