Since their wedding took place on the first day of summer, Sarah and Oren chose colors inspired by a bold sunset: purples, reds, and some yellow. They really couldn't have chosen more perfect colors either, because despite a gray and rainy day, their wedding was bright and full of cheer. And they've been kind enough to share it with us!
The wedding took place at
Moraine Farm in Beverly, Massachussetts.
I love what Sarah has to say about getting married on a rainy day:
June 21st was a stormy, windy day. But, as my dad says, a wet knot is harder to untie! A wedding on the lawn was out of the question, so we all squeezed into the screen porch of the house. There were gusts blowing in sideways and the floor was slippery, but it all made for the most relaxed, intimate ceremony, full of laughter. I truly felt surrounded by love and support.
Sarah wore a dress by
Dina Bar-El, butterfly flip-flops by
Dolce Vita, and a red silk camelia in her hair by Etsy vendor
Mikiye. She also wore a necklace given to her by her grandmother, and which was originally a wedding present for Sarah's great grandmother from her mother. Oren wore a suit from
Express and a red tie that he already owned. The bridesmaids wore a purple dress of their choice, which looked beautiful next to the groomsmen in their red shirts!
Sarah carried a bouquet of dried organic lavender, and the bridesmaids each carried a single sunflower. After the ceremony, guests tossed dried lavender buds at the couple.
I absolutely love the story of Sarah's dress:
I spotted a photo of Uma Thurman wearing a stunning gown to the Oscars and decided that it would be my wedding dress. I printed out a picture, wrote "Sarah's dress, $299" on it, and stuck it to my wall. After much hunting and Googling, I found out that Dina Bar-El had designed a version of the same dress, and a few weeks later, what was probably the only one for sale in the whole world popped up in an eBay search, in practically my size. I bid $150 and won. Including alterations, I figure I spent just about $299. Moral of the story: It always pays to put it out there in the universe.
The day-of coordinator,
Linnea Tangorra, brought a giant umbrella which Sarah and Oren used in their portraits.
Sarah used Adobe Illustrator to design their save-the-dates, invitations, programs, seating cards and chart, dinner menus, and all of the signs at the wedding. She says it was one of her favorite parts of the process.
Sarah made paper cones, which were filled with
Terra Chips for the cocktail hour. For drinks, guests enjoyed local beers, Prosecco, and the debut of Sarah's own recently bottled
Je Suis Syrah.
Sarah is a food writer and winemaker, so good food was a priority.
Blue Ribbon Barbecue provided quite a feast, which was served family style so that guests could relax and enjoy a laid-back meal. Aprons were placed in each female guest's chair so they wouldn't have to worry about getting barbecue all over their nice clothes!
Ne Me Quitte Pas Catering provided hors d'oeuvres (miniature bison burgers and miniature grilled cheese sandwiches with accompanying shots of soup) and dessert (miniature ice cream cones, ice cream sandwiches, and ice cream pies).
Instead of cake guests enjoyed fleur de sel caramels by
Recchiuti with glasses of Port. At the reception, Sarah changed into a short dress by
Georgiou and red wedges by
Paco Gil.
A group from
Winiker Bands got everyone dancing!
