A Little Buzz

A big thank you to Mrs. Bee for mentioning snippet & ink in her post yesterday. How exciting! WeddingBee is a great forum for brides to get feedback and share ideas and inspiration, so if you haven't checked it out, you definitely should spend some time over there. Again, thanks so much, and enjoy the boards!

Board #53: Trick or Treat!

How about a Victorian-Gothic Sleepy Hollow Masquerade? It would take some real guts to use this board as inspiration for a wedding, but I can definitely imagine it as a fantastic Halloween party. Refinement meets decay, the macabre meets the glamorous. It is so creepily whimsical, and if someone had the inclination, I think it could work really well. Also, a big thank you to all the ladies who posted about Halloween weeks ago - all of your posts were big inspiration for this board!

Mood: macabre glamour
Palette: black, white, orange

Board #52: Home for the Holidays

Reindeer, holly berries, cookies and milk. Sounds like Christmas, but it's a wedding! I love the pink with the red. And the warm ivory. And the touches of gray. A warm, intimate event, maybe at home, and including some of the most fun elements of the holidays. Stockings like this might make for a cute decorative element, too.

Mood: warm and cozy
Palette: red, pink, gray, white

Board #51: The Apple of My Eye

Yesterday I posted a board based around one flower. Today's board is based around another single element: apples. Apples are so charmingly rustic, and you can make them part of an equally rustic event, but they can also work perfectly at an elegant wedding: tiny candied apples passed by servers, as place cards with paper leaves, sugared as a cake decoration. I would also use a vintage apple crate label as inspiration for wedding stationery to keep the theme running throughout.

Mood: rustic elegance
Palette: apple colors (red, green, gold, brown), white

Board #50: Lily of the Valley

A single flower can be the focus of an entire event, and it keeps things simple. Lily of the valley's shape resembles wedding bells, and green and white are a classic combination, making this delicate spring bloom a wonderful choice.

Mood: traditional, clean
Palette: pale green, white

Board #49: My Muddy Water Mississippi Delta Home

I swear, next weekend I won't be spending my Saturday night studying Pythagorean triplets. However, while this means no fun for me, it means a Weekend Edition for you, because I need a little break.

This is a special board, inspired by my time living in the Delta, and keeping in mind two teacher friends who will be tying the knot there come next spring. I imagine an event that is low key and very Delta, which means cotton bolls, sweet tea, barbecue, and some live blues music. I would use mason jars for centerpieces to echo the mason jar candles and the mason jar drinking "glasses." I would also recommend a swamp cooler at the ceremony.

Mood: rustic, local charm
Palette: red, white

Board #48: Autumn on the Beach

I've had a request for a beach wedding, in the fall, with deep pink as a main color. Here is how I imagine that type of event. I don't know what beaches are like in other places during the fall, but where I grew up they're pretty cold and foggy. Deep pink can really warm things up, and chocolate brown echoes other fall colors. I also love the use of indoor furniture outdoors - setting up a comfortable lounge area or "living room" on the beach is so unexpected and pretty. I would definitely supply guests with blankets, and a bonfire once the sun goes down would be fantastic.

"Didn't she just post a pink and brown board?" you ask.

Sure, but this one is different! Isn't it incredible how the same color palette doesn't necessarily mean the same mood or feel of a wedding? I think it's great to have color in mind, because it helps keep things focused, and it helps pull the event together, but there so many other factors that go into creating an event (setting, season, formality, etc.).

Mood: intimate, picturesque
Palette: deep pink, chocolate brown

Board #47: Nordic Winter

There are so many beautiful ways to make the most of a winter wedding. An icy blue palette is sophisticated and very sweet, and it makes me think of a very cold northern winter. I think it's chic the way it is, but to warm it up you could add some chocolate brown elements. Or, if you're really worried about it being too cold, you could just make sure there's plenty of pale blue cashmere around.

Mood: romantic, chic
Palette: icy blue, white

Board #46: Left At Albuquerque

How about a board with a Southwest slant? Instead of going for burnt oranges and dusty reds, I thought I'd cool things down a bit with pale greens and blues, inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe's trumpet flower. I also like the idea of an event that echoes the simple lines of its surroundings, and succulents add to the desert feel.

Mood: minimalist, natural
Palette: cool green, pale blue, chalky white

Board #45: Not So Mellow Yellow

I have done some yellow boards before, but none that really pop like this one. I love the dramatic contrast of a yellow, black and white palette - it's takes itself a little more seriously. If you wanted to tone it down, you could make it less marigold/jet and more lemon/blackberry.

Mood: bold, unexpected
Palette: marigold, black, white

Board #44: Wide Open Spaces

Three boards in one day?! What can I say - I'm sick, I don't have a TV, how else to entertain myself?

For anyone who has ever spent any time in Montana, you know how naturally beautiful it is. As far as a wedding goes, I imagine a rustic late summer event, with a meal straight off the grill, and a campfire once the sun goes down. I would also limit bright colors, so that they don't compete with the scenery.

Mood: ruggedly romantic
Palette: tan, white, maybe one very muted pastel

Board #43: Waterfront Wedding

I know there are some ladies out there working with a navy and green palette, so I wanted to offer my take on what that might look like. I leaned toward preppy instead of nautical, with lots of green hydrangeas, but I still imagine this as a waterfront event. Let me know what you think!

Board #42: Chocolate and Roses

Pairing feminine pink and masculine brown together makes for a lovely combination. Elaborate swirling calligraphy in white gouache on brown stationery, a gorgeous full gown, and elegant amaryllis all fit the formal setting of a reception in San Francisco's gorgeous City Hall.

Mood: formal, romantic
Palette: blush, chocolate brown

Board #41: So Fresh and So Green

I've got a miserable cold, and I'm up to my eyeballs in test prep material. What a horrible way to spend a gorgeous Sunday. So I thought I'd take a break and post a board to add a little happy to my (and your) day.

Maybe it's because the trees have traded verdant leaves for fiery ones, but I am craving some green. Green and white are such a classic pair, and the addition of black makes it all new. This board could be the inspiration for a refined event on a sprawling estate, a lovely vineyard wedding, or an intimate backyard occasion. Enjoy!

Palette: green, black, white

Boards #39 and #40: Garden Parties

Whether your event takes place in a friend's garden or in the local botanical gardens, a garden wedding is one of the sweetest things I can imagine. What a great opportunity to play up an already beautiful setting. Here are two takes on the garden wedding.

Board #39: Pink and Green

How have I not done a pink and green board yet? It's such a classic color combination, especially for a wedding. Especially for a garden wedding!

Mood: preppy, classic
Palette: pink, green

Boards #37 and #38: Winter Whites

At first glance, these boards may not seem so different. They are both Winter boards, and they are both white. But, as any interior designer will tell you (Mom...?), the impact made by warm whites is quite different than that made by cool whites. Both would make for a stunning event.

Board #37: Warm White

I think warm white and I think coconut, white chocolate, pearls, cashmere, with all those delicious pink and gold undertones.

Boards #35 and #36: Red and White

Wow. Sorry for the late post again! I seem to be having some serious trouble with the internet lately. Anyway, here they are... Today we have two red and white boards, one for early summer and one for winter.

Board #35: Strawberry & Cream

In the early summer, red and white makes me think of berries and cream, picnic linens, and sweet simple fun. I imagined this board with a touch of French flair.

Mood: sweet, simply elegant
Palette: red, white, bits of black

Row 3: table by Art Fool, necklace by Saylor Sage, red and white napkin, drinks and Paris photo both from Brides

Technical Difficulties

Hi there! Sorry that my post today had no pictures! I don't know why that happened, and it took me a while to figure it out, but it should be resolved. I'm mostly un-savvy when it comes to computers, so things like this might happen once in a while - hopefully not too often! Anyway, here they are, so enjoy!

Boards #33 and #34: The Great Gatsby

Today's boards are variations on a Great Gatsby theme.

Board #30: Royal Purple

Outside of nature, I'm not such a fan of pale purples. I think they can look pretty tacky, actually. Aubergine, though, (sounds so much better than eggplant, doesn't it?) is just gorgeous. It is one of the deepest, richest colors I can think of, and paired with deep browns and a hint of green, it's perfect for a lush fall event.

Mood: lavish elegance
Palette: aubergine, chocolate, white

Board #29: City Hall Champagne Chic

How about a city hall ceremony and a chic champagne and dessert reception? Black and white is such a powerful combination, so I added some hints of very pale pink to warm this board up. Also (you may have already noticed this) I just can't get enough of sneakers for the groom and groomsmen - I think it adds so much personality!

Mood: urban chic
Palette: black, cream, pale pink

Top row from left: photo via {frolic}, Morgan Davies dress from Brides UK, photo from Brides, centerpiece from Vine

Row 4: bouquet from MS, photo via Faye and Greer, black cube from Chocolate Trading Co., invitation from Ceci NY

I have had some questions about whether I will take suggestions for boards, and the answer is yes, of course I love to hear your suggestions! I can't promise when a certain board might show up, and I actually have quite a few boards lined up at the moment, but I would love it if I could create a board that would be useful for a specific person and event. So feel free to post any suggestions for boards that you might have and I'll see what I can do.

Board #28: Beyond the Backyard

There is no doubt that I love the details that go into a wedding. I think personal and thoughtful details are what makes one wedding unique from another. At the same time, I am pretty turned off by the idea of trying to out-do celebrities and using a wedding as a means of showing off, as though that one day is more important than the lifetime after it. A simple backyard wedding with lovely details and close friends and family can be just as beautiful and meaningful - if not more so! - than the most over-the-top event. I think this board, with various shades of green and brown, could work well from March to September. If you wanted to go with a larger, more formal wedding, this would also make for a great rehearsal dinner.

Mood: intimate, casual
Palette: olive, white, hints of blue

Board #27: Icy Cool

Is it too early for a winter board? I'm not trying to rush this perfect fall day away, but I thought an icy, silvery Winter Wonderland wedding would be just gorgeous, maybe in January or February?

Palette: silver, white

Board #26: Creamsicle

After such a warm weekend, I had to start the week with a warm board. I think some people are intimidate by the color orange, which is too bad because it is so energetic and just plain fun. And, mixed with cream, it can be incredibly elegant. I think this would be perfect for a late summer/early fall wedding.

Mood: bright, cheery
Palette: orange, cream

I have a bonus post for you this week. To show my support and respect for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I've created this all-pink board. For even more pink, remember this one?

Board #24: October Gave A Party

Have you had enough Autumn inspiration yet? Clearly, I haven't! This post over at Toast and Tables motivated me to create yet another very Autumn board. This one seems a little more refined than the others, without sacrificing any of the harvest style the season demands.

Mood: gracious abundance
Palette: brown, orange, gold

Board #23: Black and White

I wanted to do something in black and white showing that, while this color combination is inherently glamorous and dramatic, it can also be playful. Why not have an orchid-adorned cake and Oreos? A Cartier Tank and Chuck Taylors? They're as different (and well-paired) as black and white.
