Board #495: Champagne and Cake

The other day, I was revisiting one of my very favorite blogs, Faye & Greer. It was one of the first blogs I read, and it was one of the reasons I decided to start Snippet & Ink. Though it's been "out of service" for nearly three years, I still find ideas and inspiration there when I stop by and browse the archives. On this visit, I came across an inspiration board they made for a champagne and cake wedding, and I thought I'd expand on that look and idea for today's post.

Having a champagne and cake reception is such a sweet and sophisticated way of saving money on your wedding. Though I imagined a venue with a rustic feel to it, this type of wedding could easily translate to a garden setting, church hall, or historic building. Splurge on two or several gorgeous (and delicious) cakes, and buy champagne in bulk (some places will even let you return unopened bottles). Fabric rosettes appear on the bride's dress and the table linens, lending a feminine and romantic touch. Not that good wedding cake needs improvement, but vintage forks with mother-of-pearl handles are a glamorous detail. Send guests home with pretty packages of chocolate truffles.

Mood: romantic and warm (with just a touch of rustic and vintage)
Palette: champagne, sugar, rosé

Board #491: Peach and Pumpkins

When I get emails from readers asking for help with colors or details, I'm usually able to point them in the direction of previous posts that fit their specifications. But when Jacqui emailed me with her dilemma, I thought it would be fun to make an inspiration board based on her ideas. She knew she wanted: an October wedding at a rustic barn venue (complete with Hank Williams cover band), navy and gray as the palette base, white Cinderella pumpkins, and autumn flowers. But she was having trouble coming up with an accent color that wasn't orange or red, but still seasonal, and then seeing how it would all come together. I chose peach as a seasonal accent color - it's unexpected, certainly, but it works so well with those pretty white pumpkins, especially when it comes in the form of in-season dahlias. So here we go - my interpretation of Jacqui's vision.

Mood: soft and rustic
Palette: navy blue, peach, white, brown

Board #481: Nude & Gray

I love neutrals. Just about everything in my home, or that I wear, is either white or beige or gray. Not particularly bold or exciting, but I think done well, neutrals can be anything you want them to be, whether it's cozy, stark, romantic or modern. All of that is just an extended way of introducing today's inspiration board, with its palette of modern neutrals. Shades of peachy nude and cement gray are at once modern and romantic, and I think it's an utterly sophisticated look. If you wanted to introduce a pop of color, I could see bringing in shots of bright orange or hot pink, or perhaps a deep plum purple.

Mood: softly modern
Palette: nude in shades of peach and cream, warm gray

Board #473: Antique Peach and Blue

Headboards have been a surprising source of inspiration for me lately - further evidence, I guess, that inspiration can be found just about anywhere. This palette of antique peach and faded blue makes for a sweet spring combination, or a soft choice for summer. And I love the floral print! Have any of you found your wedding colors or aesthetic or other inspiration in an unexpected place?

Board #436: Peach and Flame

After two years of making a new inspiration board almost daily, I definitely have those periods when I feel less than inspired, so I do hope you'll forgive the lack of consistent inspiration board posts lately. I also hope you've been enjoying the real wedding features during the week - it's great to have a chance to showcase more of the amazing submissions that come into my inbox. Anyway, thank you for understanding! And keep an eye out later today for the NYC Photo Shoot finalists, when you'll be able to read their stories and vote on a winner...

Now, today's inspiration board. I've been drawn to orange lately, but I don't think I've ever done such a bold wedding palette. I imagine this would be an amazing - and dramatic - event to attend in the middle of autumn or winter.

Board #417: Soft Summer Sunlight

You know that light that comes toward the end of a summer day? Between afternoon and evening, when the sun is no longer glaring, but it's not quite dusk yet either? Siesta time, maybe. Anyway, that's the light that I was thinking of when I created today's inspiration board. Soft and warm, and apricot sweet!

Board #408: Peaches & Pigs

I was recently reminded of this darling pig note card by Black Pearl Press, and though it would be a fun starting point for a summer barbecue wedding reception. Simple and sweet, with jam and pies and peaches and barbecue. Oh, and mustaches on a stick, just because they're fun!

Board #390: Unofficially Summer

Well friends, I'm finally back! With an interstate move and a trip to check out wedding venues, I'm going to be quite the busy bee over these next couple weeks, so I might be a bit slow to respond to emails, but I will do my best to stay on top of things at Snippet & Ink! I know that for many, Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer, so I wanted to post an inspiration board that conveyed that sweet and simple summer feel. Baskets of fruit serve as centerpieces, lunch is simple sandwiches and soda, and polka dots add whimsy. Enjoy!

Board #385: Navy & Peach

As much as I still love gray as an accent color, I think that navy blue might be moving in as the next "neutral." It adds drama to a palette, yet avoids taking itself too seriously like black might. And though there's a certain unavoidable preppiness to it, I think it lends itself well to this romantic and whimsical inspiration board, inspired largely by the beautiful invitation by Mika78. So what do you think? Will navy be the next big thing? What would you pair it with? Also, I really love peach as an alternative to uber-girly pink...

Board #381: Low Country Love

I suppose in some ways this wedding board is inspired by my road trips through South Carolina and Georgia - one of my absolute favorite things about driving through the South is the Spanish moss in the oak trees, and I wanted to create an inspiration board around that low-country look. Something simple and easy going. Nothing fussy or overwrought. A small town feel. Magnolias are an obvious floral choice, and peach jam and grits make for an appropriate regional favor. And I know it's rather trendy at this point, but I never get sick of sweet tea served in a mason jar.

Board #350: How fair is a garden

I knew when I saw this bouquet by Ariella Chezar in an issue of Well Wed that I had to include it in an inspiration board - some kind of secret garden, that bursts into color and life as soon as you discover it behind a hidden garden gate. And I would make sure that there was a swing like this, with ribbons tied to it echoing those tied to the bouquet. The palette and venue make this a flexible enough wedding to work in spring, summer or fall (personally, I'm dreaming of spring these days...). And though it could certainly be applied to a larger wedding, I'm thinking of a more intimate party in a special little walled garden.

Mood: vibrant, secret garden

Board #331: Peach Orchard Wedding

I don't know about you, but I so wish the weather was to right to sit outside in the sun with a book and a bowl of summer fruit. Hence today's inspiration board. Bright summer sun, filtered through an orchard thick with peaches, and a casual meal in the late afternoon, once the day has cooled off a bit. Set up games, maybe a tire swing, and serve family favorites for dessert. Instead of flowers, decorate tables with baskets of peaches that guests can take home.

Mood: sunny, homegrown
Palette: sweet peach, summer green

Board #299: Tangelo, Cameo & Gold

It is entirely possible to have an orange autumn wedding without a single pumpkin - actually, this palette of wheat gold, cameo pink, tangelo orange and cream would work equally well in spring and summer, but autumn is what I had in mind when making this inspiration board. These colors would let you use dahlias for fall, roses in summer, and poppies in spring. There is something eternally romantic about a cameo brooch (many of which can also be worn as pendants). Paired with a whimsical cake (decorated with crepe paper flowers!) and a dress with lace applique details, this is a wedding board that manages to be sweetly romantic without being overly saccharine or fussy.

Mood: soft, warm autumn romance
Palette: cameo, tangelo, gold, cream

Board #290: One Love, Two Love, Pink Love, Blue Love

One of my favorite color combinations is one of the simplest: pink and blue. I love hot pink with navy, or maybe hot pink and aqua, or today, pale peachy pink with French blue. It is sweet, classic, and perfect for a garden luncheon. Hang a crystal chandelier from a tree to dress things up, and place various vintage bottles of tulips on tables to dress things down. And how perfect is the detail of lacing the groom's shoes with blue laces?

Mood: classic garden romance

Board #249: Première danseuse

Here is the second inspiration board that I made a few months ago for Minted.com. I just adore the illustration that Rene Gruau did for Christian Dior, and really loved making this wedding board based around it.

Board #224: Red and Peach Country Charm

I love red when it's softened by another color - peach in this instance. I think this wedding inspiration board contains both rustic country charm and whimsically elegant details, and would work well in late summer or early fall. Fruit pies could take the place of wedding cake, or maybe alongside a buttercream cake decorated with seasonal fruit. Roses and dahlias are the main floral element here, but ranunculus would work, as would bittersweet berries later in the fall.

Mood: rustic, elegant country charm

Board #209: Peachy Keen

Well folks, it looks like the day is almost over and I haven't posted an inspiration board yet - my apologies! I'm catching up after three weekends of traveling, but I should have things under control shortly. Hopefully everyone enjoyed Ashley and Dusty's real wedding feature, and had a great weekend in general. And now, onto today's wedding inspiration board.

I love peach. It strikes the perfect balance between pink and orange, and even pulls a little yellow into the mix. It works well in spring and summer, and is feminine without being overly girly. I've paired it here with mostly white for a really bright, fresh look.

Board #202: Let's Get Married!

The crazy beige tulle bow in the top row was the initial inspiration for this wedding board - any bride who would wear that has got to have a great sense of humor. Her wedding would have to include fun elements like novelty toy favors and miniature donuts. And why shouldn't a wedding be fun! To me, this palette looks like a late summer or early fall wedding, but if you turn up the pink it could easily work in spring, or if you add more white you could use it in winter too.

Board #162: Late Summer Gold

The gorgeous and whimsical bouquet that Katie Duong created for her own wedding (featured in Martha Stewart Weddings) is the main point of inspiration for this wedding. The colors of late summer run throughout this inspiration board: browns, golds, barely-there blush and a hint of green.
