Board #416: Seaglass and Storm

My honey and I have a new deal, which is that neither of us is allowed to do work after 7:00pm. Which means that I'm totally late on getting this post up for you today! Anyway, I hope you enjoy this cool, quiet palette. It seemed like just the thing for 100-plus degree heat - like diving into a pool, or heading to the spa, or something equally refreshing.

Board #415: Tumbleweed & Chili Pepper

I'm back in Austin - how could I resist a Tex Mex inspiration board! String up some party lights and papel picado, dump some ice and beer into big coolers or buckets, invite all the cowboys and cowgirls you know, and you've got the beginning of a great party...

Board #414: Kraft Paper & Twine

What could be simpler than kraft paper and twine? They are two of my favorite materials - so simple, yet so substantial, and each with such great textures. Hence this inspiration board, with its neutral - yet textured - color scheme, and uncomplicated look that would work equally well in a minimalist urban loft, or in a rustic old barn.

Board #413: Black and Pearl

You know that faintest hint of blush that shows up on some pearls? That's what I think of when I see this palest pink. Pair it with just enough strokes of black to make it edgy - fun for a sassy wedding palette!

Oh, and if you want even more color inspiration, head over to The Bride's Cafe for my third color board guest post...

Board #412: Day Trip

As summer starts winding down, I keep thinking about road trips. They are one of my very favorite things, and I think the whole feel of a summer road trip - or even just a quick day trip - would make for a lovely wedding or party. Set up a table outside, put some flowers in whatever container you have on hand, feed your guests and laugh. Sometimes less really is more.

Board #411: Raspberry & Indigo

Happy Monday! I thought that this week I would play around a bit with the look of my inspiration boards, pulling from non-wedding sources for inspiration, and to creating boards that focused on a few really strong images. Hopefully today's inspiration board does that. I absolutely love the palette here, as well as the textures, and I tried to choose images that were somewhat playful - that don't take themselves too seriously. What do you think? Does an inspiration board like this still help you to get a sense of an event or a look?

Board #410: Lavender & Cherry

Inspired by this Luisa Beccaria spread that I first saw on coco + kelley, and by this lovely palette from Martha Stewart Weddings, I thought a lavender and red inspiration board made for a really wonderful summer wedding. It could certainly work in other seasons, but I like the way it feels in a garden setting, with fresh lavender and cherries. The muted almost-gray purple works as a nice backdrop for pops of real cherry red - feminine without being syrupy.

Mood: summer sweet with a touch of sass

Board #409: Tangerine & Lemon Drop

Hi all! Sorry for bailing on you yesterday and this morning - even though I can take my laptop with me when I go visit family, it's so hard to pull myself away from good books and good meals and good laughing to put up a new post! Anyway, I apologize for disappearing yesterday, and hope that this cheerful inspiration board, with its super-saturated candy color, will make up for it...

Board #408: Peaches & Pigs

I was recently reminded of this darling pig note card by Black Pearl Press, and though it would be a fun starting point for a summer barbecue wedding reception. Simple and sweet, with jam and pies and peaches and barbecue. Oh, and mustaches on a stick, just because they're fun!

Board #407: Hydrangeas & Linen

Lazy days, dinners al fresco, time with family and friends - these are my favorite things about summer. I thought I'd put together an inspiration board that could certainly be a wedding, but could easily be a simple dinner party in the backyard. The faded blue and white of vintage linen tea towels is an unexpected motif, and an easy way to create a cohesive look.

Board #406: Sweets & Roses

One of these days, I'm going to have a beautiful garden, and I'm going to have little garden parties where I serve cookies and lemonade. In the meantime, I've translated my little dream into a simple garden wedding for you. The color scheme and idea aren't anything new, but it's still one of my favorite looks, and the individual images are so lovely that I couldn't resist.

Board #405: Le 14 Juillet

A few of these images have been floating around for awhile in my head, and I thought it would be fun to put together a celebratory French-inspired board for Bastille Day. French flags, sparklers, and a croquembouche of course. If you happen to be in San Francisco today, head down to Belden Place, have some moules frites, and party (it's what I'd do if I was there)!

Board #404: Equestrian Elegance

It must be all this time I'm spending here in Montana that's inspired two horse-related inspiration boards in a row. Whatever it is, I love the simplicity of this palette: the gray of aged barnwood, the green of summer grass and trees, and the rich brown of old iron keys and horseshoes. Refined rustic is one of my favorite looks, because it can be classic and unfussy at the same time.

Board #403: Apples and Horseshoes

Even though we're in the middle of summer, I know there are some autumn brides out there looking for inspiration. And since it's one of the most beautiful times of year, I didn't think the rest of you would mind this autumn wedding board, with it's horseshoe motif and caramel apple details.

Board #402: Strawberry Plaid

Have I already mentioned how much I love plaid right now (along with stripes and gingham)? It's charming and kitschy, and there's nothing fussy or stuffy about it - and it makes for a great motif. Use it on ribbons, envelope liners, shirts, socks, napkins. Use solid white - and a green lawn - as a backdrop to keep the plaid from looking too busy. I also like this as a take on a pink and green palette, where the pink is punchy and instead of pale.

Board #401: Lemon and Sugar

I love all fruit decorations, but lemons are probably at the top of that list. This delightful centerpiece from Rebecca Thuss' own wedding served as the inspiration for today's wedding board - sugar-dusted lemons in a simple compote dish. White garden roses are a simple and romantic choice for bouquets.

Board #400: Wild, Retro West

Can you believe this is the 400th board that I've posted? Honestly, I think it's absolutely crazy. Though there are times when I'll revisit a previous theme or palette, I hope that you feel inspired in some way every time you visit Snippet & Ink. So, for my 400th trick... a retro cool wedding in the desert of the Old West.

Board #399: Marry-Go-Round

What is it that has me posting two carnival inspiration boards in a row? All I can say is that it's summer, it's hot, and I think everyone can use a dose of fun no matter what. Stripes seem to be a recurrent theme this week, as well - maybe they're the new damask, which would be alright by me! Oh, and how about these cute dresses for your flower girls?

Board #397: Love-Love

Inspiration boards are back! It feels like forever since I posted one of these! Thank you so much for your patience and understanding last week - I can't tell you how much it means. Hopefully the moments of total meltdown and anxiety and self-doubt (agh!) will be few and far between from here on out. And now, on with the inspiration...

The other title I was considering for this inspiration board was "A Perfect Match" - I guess that will have to wait until my next tennis inspired wedding board. Green and white stripes slowly turned into a tennis-themed wedding - something playful and preppy, and totally appropriate since Wimbledon is happening right now. And though there is certainly a tennis aspect to today's inspiration board, I don't think it's overly theme-y and cheesy. Are you incorporating a hobby or interest into your wedding?
